{"id":4087,"date":"2017-11-20T11:07:37","date_gmt":"2017-11-20T19:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sdbgdocents.org\/?page_id=4087"},"modified":"2017-11-20T11:08:44","modified_gmt":"2017-11-20T19:08:44","slug":"garden-beautification-coordinator","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/sdbgdocents.org\/?page_id=4087","title":{"rendered":"Garden Beautification Coordinator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.printfriendly.com\/printfriendly.js\"><\/script><a class=\"printfriendly\" style=\"color: #6d9f00; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Printer Friendly and PDF\" onclick=\"window.print(); return false;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.printfriendly.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none;\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.printfriendly.com\/pf-button.gif\" alt=\"Print Friendly and PDF\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1><strong>Garden Beautification Coordinator<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2>General Description:<\/h2>\n<p>The Garden Beautification Coordinator oversees team captains and their volunteers as they assist the SDBG staff to maintain and improve the Garden on a regularly scheduled basis.<\/p>\n<h2>Duties:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Assure that each garden beautification team has a captain, help with recruiting and training as necessary, and provide rules and guidelines for safe gardening. If any team is without a captain, the coordinator assumes that responsibility.<\/li>\n<li>Establish productive liaison between the head horticulturist and volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the good condition, appearance and accurate signage in all areas prior to major events, e.g. Gala in the Garden, Garden of Lights, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Help identify areas requiring special attention and plan\/organize to meet those needs, e.g. initiate Power Wednesdays to cover special needs, earmark new plants for specific areas, put new seasonal color into the various color beds as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Bring issues to the attention of staff. This includes, but is not limited to condition of plants, availability of tools and supplies.<\/li>\n<li>Arrange for full coverage of Saturday work parties and encourage staff gardeners to attend.<\/li>\n<li>In coordination with staff, schedule training sessions for volunteers on rules, guidelines and basic gardening techniques with a particular emphasis on safety.<\/li>\n<li>Attend regularly scheduled meetings (Docent Executive Board, Docent\/Volunteer, Volunteer Orientation) to discuss issues, changes, announce garden work parties and recruit new garden beautification volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>Track, maintain and communicate new volunteer information, add names to mailing list, send to team captains for recruiting purposes.<\/li>\n<li>Create and distribute monthly calendar.<\/li>\n<li>Provide support to team captains. Meet with team captains at least once yearly to exchange information, maintain the Garden Beautification Team Captain\u2019s Notebook and provide to all new team captains.<\/li>\n<li>Create annual goals, and present reports at the general meetings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Specific Skills:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Basic knowledge of gardening and horticulture<\/li>\n<li>Ability to productively work with others<\/li>\n<li>Organization and planning skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to supervise and oversee volunteers and team captain<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Time Required:<\/h2>\n<p>10 &#8211; 18 hours monthly<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Recommended Term:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Minimum of two years with a succession planning candidate in development<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Garden Beautification Coordinator General Description: The Garden Beautification Coordinator oversees team captains and their volunteers as they assist the SDBG staff to maintain and improve the Garden on a regularly scheduled basis.
