Bloom Board Coordinator
General description:
Coordinate monthly updates of photographs on the Bloom Board located in front of the Gift Shop. The Bloom Board depicts flowers in bloom at the Gardens.
Prerequisites & Skills:
- Own a camera (preferably digital) and possess the understanding to use it to photograph plants & flowers in bloom.
- Have the ability to print, develop, and/or cover the costs of having photographs professionally developed.
- Can visit SDBG at least once a month during Gift Shop hours to obtain Bloom Board display key to update the Bloom Board Display. (Alternative arrangements for key storage could also be made.)
Tips:
- Photograph plant together with its label to aid in specimen identification.
- Use temporary photographic tape (kept in the bottom of the Bloom Board) to affix the photograph to the Bloom Board cork display board.
- Keys to the Bloom Board are located in the drawer underneath the Gift Shop cash register on a yellow-tabbed key chain.
- A reference collection of bloom photos is located in two large photo storage boxes in a lower cupboard of the Larabee House kitchen. Photos are alphabetically arranged by Latin name and may be used for the Bloom Box, when necessary.
Note:- that it is difficult to rely on the reference collection. Matching photos to plants currently blooming can be difficult, and photos tend to deteriorate after they have spent a month on display in the Bloom Box.
Estimate of Time Required:
At least 6 hours a month to photograph plants, develop photos, type name labels for plants and post photographs and labels on the Bloom Board display.
