Herbarium Keeper

 

General description:

The goals of the herbarium need to be reviewed as the internet has made some of the original goals obsolete. Dave Ehrlinger is in charge of the herbarium and will be making these decisions. As of now this is what’s done.

Duties:

 

1. Maintain the existing 3,780 vouchers by replacement, rotation through the freezer etc.
2. Collect samples from the garden as needed
3. Press, dry,  mount and research specimens
4. Maintain original log book and the computer data base

Prerequisites & Skills:

1. Be a “self starter” as many times you are working alone
2. Goof organizational skills
3. In general, skills needed to carry out the above jobs

Tips:

Use of books in the herbarium

Estimate of Time Required:

At least 2 hours per week…more in winter and spring and less in fall

Recommended Term:

2 year minimum
